Let’s cut straight to it.
If you’re doing live streams, pre-recorded interviews, customer testimonials, or expert sessions — you need a platform that works for you, not against your budget (or your patience).
I’ve been a long-time user of one of them, but… things are changing.
This post is the result of me sitting down to actually review my tech stack — and I figured, why not record the whole thing live (yes, meta) and share it?
If you’re stuck choosing a streaming platform — or overdue a rethink — read on 👇
Because tech moves fast. 🏃♂️
Platforms get better. Or worse. Prices creep up. New options hit the market.
So I always tell clients: review your tools regularly. Don’t just “set and forget” your stack.
That’s exactly what I’m doing here — and if you’re in the build > grow > scale phase of your Knowledge to Revenue (K2R) journey, this is exactly the kind of check-in you should be doing too.
I compared 3 of the big players:
StreamYard – my long-time go-to
I tested for:
Ease of use
Features (especially for interviews and community content)
Pricing transparency (some of y’all are real shady… 👀)
Flexibility for future scaling
Support + vibes from the team
Let’s start with the one I’ve used for years.
✅ Easy to use
✅ Solid for interviews and testimonials
✅ Great browser-based setup
✅ Local recording = good video/audio quality
✅ Multi-platform streaming
But here’s where it fell apart for me:
🚫 Pricing creep – $45/month and climbing
🚫 No transparent pricing on the website (why though?)
🚫 Limits on downloading transcripts, unless you upgrade
🚫 Branding everywhere on the free plan
🚫 3 destinations max on the core plan — not enough if you want to grow
If you're doing occasional live stuff, it still works. But for where I'm headed? It’s no longer enough.
Especially when competitors like Restream and OneStream are doing more for less.
This one surprised me.
✅ 30+ destinations (👋 YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitch, TikTok, etc.)
✅ Live + recorded options
✅ Team collaboration (bring a producer in!)
✅ Studio layout looks really nice
✅ Transparent pricing 🙌
✅ AI-powered short-form clips (extra $19/month)
Pricing (monthly):
Free plan = 2 destinations
$19/month = 3 destinations, no watermark
$49/month = 5 destinations, better quality, guest management
Compared to StreamYard, Restream is more upfront with what you get — and you’re not forced into features you don’t need.
Restream feels modern, flexible, and transparent.
Okay. I really wasn’t expecting this one to blow me away. But here we are.
✅ Stream to 45+ platforms
✅ Pre-recorded video playlists & 24/7 stream options
✅ Embed livestreams anywhere (even your course or ecomm site!)
✅ Personalized landing pages for your live videos
✅ RTMP support for custom apps
✅ Responsive, friendly team (they actually reached out to me)
And the pricing?
💥 Starts at £12/month
💥 Top-tier plan is £79/month and still cheaper than StreamYard
💥 Includes teleprompter, 10+ guests, multiple cameras, and live embedding
💥 Transparent AF
For what you get, the value looks great. Hopefully the UX stacks up too 🙏
And as someone helping business owners set up custom communities, courses, and live events — that embeddable livestream feature has really grabbed my attention
No hard feelings, StreamYard. You've been good to me. But it’s time to explore new options.
And this is the same process I walk my clients through when they’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed with tech.
Because once you’ve got clarity on the what, the how gets so much easier.
⚡ If you're building digital offers, running communities, launching programs — your tech stack matters.
🧠 Clarity = revenue. Don’t let outdated tools hold you back.
