I gave him a bit of guidance about what he might want to talk about, including some of the projects we’d worked on together. And that was it.No Zoom call to arrange. No software for him to install. No complicated instructions about recording a video and then working out how to send the enormous file back to me.He clicked the link, recorded his video in the browser and it appeared in my dashboard.Lovely.

Video testimonials shouldn’t be this difficult
Testimonials are incredibly useful, particularly when somebody is considering working with you and wants reassurance that you actually know what you’re doing.A written testimonial is good. But there’s something different about seeing and hearing a real person talk about their experience of working with you.The problem is getting them. You can ask somebody to record themselves on their phone, but then they’ve got to send you the video. You can arrange a Zoom call, but now you’ve created a diary problem. You can give them a long list of instructions, but every extra step makes it slightly less likely they’ll actually do it.So I’m always interested when technology removes those little bits of friction.
I sent Ross a link and he did the rest
The platform I used is called Skreno, at skreno.ai.It had literally only just come across my desk when I tried this, and one of the first things I did was send Ross a request for a video. He received a web page where he could record his response directly.Nothing to download or install.I could also include some on-screen guidance to give him an idea of the things he might want to cover. That’s useful because you’re not leaving somebody staring at a camera thinking, “Erm... what am I supposed to say?”Once he’d finished, the recording appeared in my Skreno dashboard. And Ross said some very lovely things about working with me and the Help With Digital team, at which point I could feel myself starting to blush. Thanks, Ross.
It’s not just for testimonials
The testimonial feature was what immediately grabbed my attention, but that isn’t all Skreno does. You can use it to record screenshots, screen videos and meetings. You can also request recordings from other people. That last bit opens up some interesting possibilities.Imagine somebody has a technical support problem. Rather than exchanging six emails trying to understand what they’re seeing, you could ask them to record it.If somebody has a question about some training, they could show you exactly where they’re getting stuck. There’s also a collaborative interface around shared recordings, so people can discuss what they’re looking at.It’s basically another way of replacing a potentially long-winded conversation with, “Show me.”Sometimes that’s much easier.
This is the sort of technology I like
I’m not particularly interested in using technology just because it’s new and shiny. What interests me is what it allows you to do.In this case, I wanted a video testimonial from a client.I sent a link.He recorded it.It came back to me.I could then use that video on social media and potentially elsewhere too. That’s the bit that matters. If you run a service business, there are probably dozens of little jobs like this where unnecessary steps are costing you time or stopping something useful from happening altogether. The best technology often isn’t the thing with the biggest list of features. It’s the thing that removes the faff. And if you want help finding simpler ways to use technology to get more enquiries, win more business or serve your customers better, have a look at Help With Digital www.helpwithdigital.com

Getting video testimonials from clients can be awkward. Here’s a simple way to request and collect them without Zoom calls, downloads or technical faff.
