Make it welcoming. Make it yours.You can always improve things later.<h2 id="cd4bd358-369d-4d21-964f-fdc8d6e34df7" data-toc-id="cd4bd358-369d-4d21-964f-fdc8d6e34df7" style="text-align: left; font-size: 24px; line-height: 1.2;">🔒 Step 5: Decide Whether Your Community Is Public or Private</h2>This is an important decision.Do you want anyone to be able to discover and join your community?Or should people only be able to join when they’re invited?The platform demonstrated in the video gives you both options.Public means anyone can find and join.Private means only invited members can join.If you’re still setting everything up, keeping the community private while you build can make a lot of sense.Then you can open the doors when you’re ready.<h2 id="e380e7a1-0643-48a3-9661-9eac331e29f4" data-toc-id="e380e7a1-0643-48a3-9661-9eac331e29f4" style="text-align: left; font-size: 24px; line-height: 1.2;">🗂️ Step 6: Think About Your Channels</h2>Channels allow you to separate conversations into different areas.Instead of dumping absolutely everything into one enormous feed, you can create spaces for different topics and types of content.But here’s the important bit:You don’t need 47 channels on day one.In fact, you might initially only need a general channel.You can develop your structure as you better understand how members are using the community.Build what you need.Not everything the platform allows you to build.<h2 id="8a41183f-2925-4857-9655-8f6fb2339caa" data-toc-id="8a41183f-2925-4857-9655-8f6fb2339caa" style="text-align: left; font-size: 24px; line-height: 1.2;">👥 Step 7: Invite Your First Members</h2>Now you actually need some people.Otherwise, you’ve just built yourself a very fancy room to sit in alone. 😂Members can be invited using their name and email address.If you’ve already created multiple channels, you can also decide which channels each person should be invited to.Then send the invitations.Simple.<h2 id="367b3616-3cab-4e22-895b-62f68813270a" data-toc-id="367b3616-3cab-4e22-895b-62f68813270a" style="text-align: left; font-size: 24px; line-height: 1.2;">🚫 Don’t Invite People Into an Empty Community</h2>Before those first members arrive, do one more thing.Create a welcome post.Seriously.Imagine being invited into somebody’s new community.You log in...Nothing.No posts.No conversations.No instructions.Just tumbleweed rolling across the screen. 🌵It immediately feels dead.Instead, create something simple.Welcome people.Tell them what the community is for.And, most importantly, give them something easy to do.For example:"Hello and welcome to the community. It’s lovely to have you here!
